Information We Collect
We collect personally identifiable information only during registration processes, including but not limited to names, mailing addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers (collectively, “Registration Information”). If you register for one of our events you may also be asked to provide additional Registration Information, such as your date of birth, or other personal information including (but not limited to) gender, t-shirt size and emergency contact information. This Registration Information is voluntarily submitted and is not required of general website visitors. Registration Information is used to fulfill your specific request, to contact you about our on-going work, to analyze our audience, and to provide you with information on volunteer opportunities or other programs or services that may be of interest, unless you give us permission to use it in another manner, for example to add you to one of our mailing lists. You may opt out of general marketing emails at any time.
We only collect credit card information from you when you register for an event or make a donation to support your participation or the participation of others. We care about the safety of your credit card transactions: secure server technology is used throughout the online transaction process. We will have to share your credit card and other information with our vendors and credit card companies to process billing. Contributions may also be made by calling 800.585.2114.
We do not keep credit card numbers, expiration dates or security codes. That information is passed to our online credit card processing company, before being deleted from our system. Pages on our Site that accept credit card information are also protected by a security certificate issued by our IT security vendor, which encrypts sensitive information being sent over the Internet.
You cannot remove or block web beacons as they form part of the content of the web pages. These tools do not identify you personally and allow us to track and analyze aggregated usage data about our Site and their use. However, because they work in conjunction with cookies, turning off cookies will prevent web beacons from tracking your user activity on our Site. The beacon can still account for an anonymous visit, but your unique information will not be recorded. The Site does not monitor for or behave differently if your computer transmits a “do not track” or similar beacon or message.
Sharing Your Information
We may disclose your information to third party vendors engaged by SOSD to help manage our Site or to promote our events or fundraising efforts to others. For example, your contact information may be passed to Meta (Facebook) in order for us to build custom or lookalike audiences within Meta’s ad manager platform, or to our online credit card processing company in order to facilitate payments. We may also share your information with other Special Olympics programs so that we may provide any requested services or information at your local level.
All non-personal information collected through the Site may be used and shared by us without any restriction.
A Note to Parents
The Site is not designed for or directed at children 13 years of age or younger. However, we may collect and maintain information about users under this age with parent or guardian consent if such individuals register for one of our events. We allow users of any age to make their name and fundraising information publicly available through the Site in connection with fundraising events. Parents may request to review or have deleted any information collected from their children using the contact information below.
