Local fundraiser unites truckers and law enforcement to benefit Special Olympics athletes.
SIOUX FALLS, SD– Local law enforcement and truck drivers across the region will team up to hold the Sioux Falls – Truck Convoy for Special Olympics® on September 19 and 20. The west side of Sioux Falls will line up with more than 150 semi-trucks as they convoy around the city and Minnehaha County to celebrate their support for Special Olympics South Dakota.
The Convoy is set to begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 20, at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Trucks will start along Madison Street. The community is invited to attend the Truck Convoy; those not participating in the Convoy can attend the event for free. We will provide a kids’ area, free-will donation lunch, an opportunity to view semi-trucks up close, and they can participate in the silent and live auctions.
The international fundraising and awareness campaign is a unique partnership between law enforcement and truckers to raise funds for Special Olympics South Dakota’s more than 3,000 athletes and help fund the 26 competitions held year-round.
Truck companies and truckers who want to participate in this year’s event can visit the Convoy’s website at www.sdconvoy.org for more information. The minimum donation to participate in the Convoy is $125 per truck.
Last year, the Sioux Falls Truck Convoy raised more than $63,000 for Special Olympics South Dakota.
Special Olympics South Dakota holds year-round sports training and competitions, free health screenings, inclusive activities in schools and leadership opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle.
