Special Olympics South Dakota holds statewide bocce and softball tournaments

Special Olympics athletes from across South Dakota head to Memorial Park and Star of the West in Rapid City to compete in bocce and softball tournaments next weekend

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Special Olympics South Dakota invites the community to join in the excitement of the State Fall Classic Tournament, taking place September 19-21 in Rapid City. More than 700 Special Olympics athletes, Unified partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities competing alongside Special Olympics athletes) and coaches from across the state will come together for this annual competition.

The bocce tournament begins on Friday, September 19, at 8:45 a.m. with a short opening ceremony, with play beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Rapid City Bocce Complex at West Memorial Park. Special Olympics South Dakota is excited to announce that there will be a ribbon-cutting at 12:15 p.m. for the bocce courts.

The softball tournament begins on Saturday, September 20 at 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and continues on Sunday, starting at 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Star of the West.

“We are excited that State Fall Classic will be held in Rapid City for years to come,” said Cathy Grubb, Black Hills Area Sports Director. “With the beautiful permanent bocce courts and the incredible community support, it was an easy decision. We are excited to once again show the talents of our athletes to those living in the Black Hills area.”

Volunteers and spectators are always welcome throughout the weekend.
